UNIMED - 2ND MASTERCLASS

ATTENDED BY PROF. Mouloud KECHA

Our partner Professor Dr. Mouloud KECHA, Head of the Laboratory of Applied Microbiology at Université Abderrahmane Mira – Bejaia (Algeria), participated in the 2nd Masterclass of the UNIMED Learning Space on 3 March 2026. The event brought together more than 80 university leaders, international relations officers, and academic staff from across the Euro-Mediterranean region to advance higher education internationalisation through research collaboration.

The Masterclass, organised by UNIMED—the Mediterranean Universities Union—focused on two critical themes: research strategies in the EU-Mediterranean context and global trends shaping university research. Participants explored pathways for strengthening cross-border academic partnerships, enhancing research capacity, and fostering innovation that addresses shared regional challenges.

During the session, Dr. KECHA presented the MATE4MEAT project, highlighting its innovative approach to developing biodegradable and functional packaging solutions for meat products. His contribution showcased how the project exemplifies successful Euro-Mediterranean research collaboration, bringing together partners from both shores of the Mediterranean to address critical challenges in food sustainability, waste reduction, and environmental protection.

Dr. KECHA’s presentation at the Masterclass contributed to the project’s visibility within the Euro-Mediterranean higher education and research community, positioning MATE4MEAT as a model for impactful regional collaboration. The session also provided opportunities for networking and exploring future partnership possibilities with universities and research institutions across the region.
