We’re excited to share the highlights from the MATE4MEAT project kick-off meeting, held in the vibrant city of Naples, hosted by the University of Naples Federico II (UniNa)! The event was packed with insightful discussions and set the stage for our mission to revolutionize meat packaging with sustainable and innovative solutions. Here’s a quick rundown of the first two days:

Day 1 Highlights 

The day kicked off with a warm welcome from our PRIMA project officer. Each of our project partners delivered engaging presentations, introducing their organizations and outlining their roles in this ambitious project. We wrapped up the day with a guided historic tour of Naples, soaking in the city’s rich cultural heritage! 

Day 2 Highlights 

The second day was dedicated to diving into the technical work plan with presentations from the leaders of each work package (WP). Here are the key takeaways:

• WP1 & WP2: Alessandra Piscitelli (University of Naples Federico II) outlined the overall project management and the production of adhesive proteins.
• WP3: Mouloud Kecha (University of Bejaia) presented next steps in identifying antimicrobial molecules.
• WP4: Özge Şakıyan Demirkol (Ankara University) shared insights on producing biodegradable biopolymers.
• WP5: Luis Cabedo Mas (Universitat Jaume I) discussed plans for packaging design, prototyping, and evaluation.
• WP6: Peter Muranyi (Fraunhofer Institute) detailed their testing and evaluation methods for packaging performance.
• WP7: Angelos Parmatzias (C.I.P Citizens In Power) discussed strategies for disseminating, exploiting, and communicating the project results.

We concluded with a productive discussion on next steps, expertly chaired by UniNa, and a heartfelt thank you to all partners—Alter Eco Pulp, FOSAN, GTE Sustainability and Energy Consultancy—for their contributions.
